DME Removal and Chip
Installation
DME Removal
- Open
the hood and look to the upper left (passenger side), against the firewall
for a rubber covering held on by 3 circular plastic caps.
- Carefully
pry off these caps with a flathead screwdriver to reveal a solid plastic
cover.
- Remove
the 4 Phillips head screws that hold on this cover.
- Once
the cover is removed, pull it aside (some tension exists due to the
attached wire boot) so that you can see the silver box-like, DME.
- Remove
the 2 Phillips head screws on each side of the DME. Be careful not to lose
the small mounting brackets that are fastened to it. Remember the
positioning of these brackets, as you will need to reattach it later.
- Now
firmly pull on the silver latch that holds the wire harness to the DME.
With the latch off, the DME should now be free to move.
- Carefully
slide out the DME. All the information is listed on the label adhered to
the DME housing.
Chip Installation
- With
the DME out, look on the underside for small tabs that fastens the DME
housing together.
- With
a very thin flat head screwdriver, carefully pry these tabs up. These tabs
are EXTREMELY rigid and have a tendency of snapping off, but
if they should happen to break, you can always use electrical tape to hold
the housing together.
- With
the tabs pried open; Open the housing by lifting the DME cover.
- Now
the "brain" is exposed. You will notice a single chip covered by
a white plastic (clip-on) covering. Gently grasp, squeeze and lift upwards
to remove the clip-on covering.
- Note
the positioning of the chip by the location of the notch (small circle or
notch on one side/corner of a chip). To remove the Chip, use a small
flathead screwdriver and gently pry each side of the chip off from the
holder.
- Now
you can pop in your new chip! Put it in the same notch position as the
stock chip.
